The Alliance for the Union of Romanians, the only parliamentary political party with a conservative, sovereignist doctrine in Romania, expresses its full support for the European Conservatives and Reformists Party and its position of solidarity with Poland and Hungary, in whose national policies the European Comission is unacceptably interfering.
The recent request of the European Comission to the European Court of Justice to apply daily fines to Poland, as well as the blocking of Hungary’s recovery funds, represent a blackmail of the Commission against sovereign nations which, like Romania, suffered for almost half a century under the communist totalitarianism.
The Alliance for the Union of Romanians joins the European Conservatives and Reformists Party in considering this abuse of power by a European institution to be outrageous and likely to deepen the democratic deficit which is already seriously affecting the common European project.
The measures demanded by the Commission are violating both the original spirit in which this project was initiated by its founding fathers, and the letter of the Treaties, which contain no provision of any right of a European institution to obstruct the judicial independence of Member States, to impose educational plans, or to deny Member States the right to protect their children against neomarxist propaganda.
The elites of Brussels cannot transgress the will of Polish and Hungarian citizens, as repeatedly expressed by popular vote. The European Commission is urged to reconsider its position and, as stated by the founding principles of the European project, to respect and defend the culture, the values, the identity and the democratic will of all its Member States.
