The Romanian Parliament Adopts AUR-Initiated Bill Declaring 2026 the “Year of the United States of America in Romania”

Today, the Romanian Parliament adopted the bill initiated by the Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR) declaring 2026 the “Year of the United States of America in Romania.” The initiative aims to strengthen the Strategic Partnership between Romania and the United States and to promote the shared values of freedom, democracy, and cooperation between the two nations.

The law provides for the organization throughout 2026 of conferences and public debates, cultural, academic, and educational events, public diplomacy initiatives, and other activities dedicated to fostering Romanian-American relations. It also allows central and local public authorities to provide logistical and material support for these events.

In addition, the Romanian Public Radio Broadcasting Company and the Romanian Public Television Company may, upon request and within a limit of up to 1% of their broadcasting time, allocate airtime for content dedicated to the Year of the United States of America in Romania.

With the adoption of this legislation, AUR reaffirms the importance of the Strategic Partnership with the United States and supports initiatives that strengthen bilateral relations and promote the democratic values shared by both nations.
